Hi, I'm Sara, and thank you for checking out my blog! The aim behind Style Me Down The Aisle is pretty simple: to connect stylish brides-to-be with sources of style inspiration ... whether it be stunning real-life weddings, talented vendors or stylish ideas from beyond the wedding world.
My husband Chris and I had a five and a half month engagement. That doesn't give you much time to do anything more than get your ducks vaguely in a row. We got lucky - we saw one venue, fell in love with it, booked it; saw one florist, fell in love with her, booked her ... you get the picture. In fact we had the church and reception venue booked within a week of being engaged. Chris' friends joked that I pressed one button on my iPhone as soon as he popped the question and the whole pre-planned wedding was instantly unleashed. Hilarious ...
As I said, we got lucky. We found fabulous suppliers and our instincts told us to put ourselves in their hands. It also helped that I married my soulmate. "He is more myself than I am", to quote Wuthering Heights, and we agreed on all the big decisions. But we stumbled upon some of our vendors and some of our inspirations, and it was pure chance that we were able to draw on these sources to make our wedding much more fabulous (in our eyes) than it would otherwise have been.
Essentially, that's what I'm hoping Style Me Down The Aisle will achieve. The mere act of pulling off a wedding is sooo much work (the grooms will NEVER know how many spreadsheets we had ...). It's surprising how time-consuming, how expensive, and how hideously draining it is dragging yourself around dress shops, accessories shops, venues. If this site can put a bride in touch with anyone or anything that can give her wedding a little extra je ne sais quoi without the accompanying headache, then I will be absolutely thrilled, and I would love to hear about it!!! Style me down the Aisle is intended to be about style, not fashion. As a bride, I certainly didn't care about what was a la mode ... in fact I was more concerned about making sure that the style of our wedding was timeless.
This whole subject is limitless, but in the beginning at least I'd like to keep things simple. Therefore, for now you can expect to find on Style me down the Aisle:
- "Real Weddings", with timeless style and elegance, regardless of budget
- "Style Inspirations", from within and outside the world of weddings, from vintage jewellers to candles, lingerie to cake
- "Across the Pond", the best ideas from the country that does all things weddings better than anyone - the US. Any US vendor featured will be available to UK brides via the wonderful, wonderful invention of BundleBox
- "Reader, I married him" - my behind-the-scenes blog with observations on the stuff that doesn't make the front pages
